Some words about us

The School of Medicine Sorig Bhumshi School

Sorig Bhumshi School was established by Ragshi Tsultrim Sangye, a medical teacher in 1988, at Norzinling Settlement in Dhorpatan, Baglung. Since then, it has been serving people from different places, particularly from Dhorpatan, where the modern amenities have not yet been able to step in. Even today, this place is deprived of road transportation, telecommunication and health services. Tsultrim Sangye served his clients tirelessly, to dispel the diseases as well as to extend their life span by providing herbal treatments as well as conducting all necessary rituals. He latter selflessly put efforts to transfer his knowledge to his students without any discrimination.

In 2004, Sorig Bhumshi’s medical Curriculum had been accredited under Tibetan Amchi Council (ཆེས་མཐོའི་སྨན་པའི་ལྷན་ཚོགས) with the tireless efforts from Geshe Yungdrung Gyaltsen and Amchi Thogme. They also made at least one membership seat reserved for Bonpo Amchis in the Council.
Since 2007 the school has been operated under the supervision of Bonpo Foundation, which is a recognized organization under Government of Nepal. In last 30 years 8 batches of Kachupas and Menrampas have been successfully graduated from the school.

Prayers

Geshe Yungdrung Gyatso was born in 1980 in the Dolpo region of Nepal. At the age of 10, he met his teacher, His Eminence Yongdzin Tenzin Namdak. Under his tutelage, he studied Sutra, Tantra, and Dzogchen at Triten Norbutse Monastery in Kathmandu. In 2008, he was awarded the title of Geshe (the highest title in monastic education) and then went on a special retreat under his teachers’ guidance. He served as the director of the monastery’s School of Medicine. He was also the editor of “Drepoi Beltam”, a magazine published by Triten Norbutse Monastery.

Everyday meditation

Reflections from Thailand

To begin with, let me remind you that sitting meditation is only one form of meditation. Another popular one is walking meditation. Also, many people enter into meditative states while painting, playing an instrument, or getting a massage – it is helpful to know what works best for you.
In sitting meditation, it is worth remembering that its purpose is not to train our body (here a bow to yoga). In its basic scope, it rather is meant to calm our mind and emotions.

To meditate effectively, we should choose a sitting position that is most comfortable for us. It can be with crossed legs on the floor or seated on a regular chair.
